Because of the excellent service we provide, the variety of our produce, our value for money, along with the presentation and ambience of our two retail shops, we have been fortunate to be given several prestigious awards over the years. Our reputation and dedication to producing the finest quality meat around has been recognised and rewarded in a number of awards ceremonies and competitions over the years. Here is a selection of our achievements from our trophy cabinet.

Held at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, the 2011-12 Wales the True Taste Food and Drink Awards ceremony showcased and rewarded some of the best and most innovative food and drink products from Wales, and recognised excellence in the retail and hospitality sectors.
Over the past decade thousands of companies have competed in the Welsh Government Awards which this year attracted some 1,017 entries from 366 companies large and small.
Alun Davies, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, said he was greatly impressed by the standard of entries in the independently judged Awards.
“There is no doubt Wales has a talent for producing top quality, flavoursome food and drink. Food is an important part of the Welsh way of life and is inextricably linked to our culture; indeed it is part and parcel of our DNA.
“The skill and enthusiasm of producers has put our produce on the world stage, and the True Taste Awards give new and established businesses an important promotional platform.
“Being a True Taste winner enables producers to catch the consumers’ eye and compete in the global market place; and I am delighted to congratulate all those who have received Awards this year.”

We have won a Silver True Taste Award!......for our 10oz Usk Valley Ribeye Steak. The critical acclaim we have received reaffirms our commitment to quality and animal care which forms the very basis of the Douglas Willis brand. The judges of the True Taste Awards pour over 860 entries in over 18 categories from food and drink companies across the length and breadth of Wales, recognising and rewarding only food of the very highest quality.
Based on the premise that happy animals produce tastier meat, all Douglas Willis’ cattle are reared naturally and grass-fed on the verdant hills of South East Wales. All the beef produced is allowed to hang and mature naturally for up to 21 days, before being passed onto our master butchers who take a great deal of pride in carefully preparing the Usk Valley ribeye steaks. So what turns a normal steak into an award winning steak? We believe the secret to our ribeye steak’s flavour and succulence is down to their bright red colour and distinctive marbling, which are best grilled quickly and over a high heat to seal in all that taste.
Douglas Willis is Best in Region
Douglas Willis has been named the best in Wales after proving itself a cut above the rest in the annual Butcher’s Shop of the Year Awards 2010. The butcher impressed the judges from awards organiser Meat Trades Journal.
Meat Trades Journal Editor Ed Bedington said: “Douglas Willis’s passion and enthusiasm for their business shines through on every level. They set standards in Wales that other butchers would do well to follow.”
Douglas Wilis was voted UK Independent Meat Retailer of the Year 2006.
In 2000 we were the South Wales Champion for our speciality LAMB & MINT BURGERS. This award put us through to The Royal Welsh Show where we won the BEST IN WALES and were crowned the WELSH CHAMPIONS for our LAMB & MINT BURGERS.
Since then we have successfully gone from strength to strength winning GOLD AWARDS for BEEF BURGERS, PORK BURGERS, LAMB & MINT BURGERS, SAUSAGES (Pork & Leek, Pork & Apple, Pork & Garlic, Welsh Dragon (Pork, leek & spices) & Traditional Thick Sausage) and numerous SILVER AWARDS.
